Dying at Home
In Florida, medical examiner records show that the coronavirus has killed more than 1,600 people. Of these deaths, many people are dying at home.
According to the NY Times, a substantial amount of people have died out of the hospital. These out-of-hospital deaths are attributed to people who may have visited a doctor, clinic or returned from the hospital. Read more in the article here.
Connecting this to our work
Our project, Predicting Out-of-Hospital Deaths will use IBM Watson Health MarketScan Databases to develop new algorithms which differentiate disenrollment (due to change in insurance provider) from disenrollment as a result of death, including out-of-hospital death.
